State universities enroll more freshmen

The number of freshmen enrolled in Michigan 's public universities this year broke 40,000 for the first time. The Presidents Council of State Universities in Michigan released data showing a 2 percent jump. However, WSU has the largest decline in freshmen, dropping from 3,120 to 2,879 students this fall. Provost Nancy Barrett said the drop was expected because Wayne State had large freshman increases in 2003 and 2004.
